Home Depot salespeople

Once bought a 12' piece of lumber at Home Depot, and asked the guy to cut it in half so it would fit in my car. He drops it on the saw, cuts it and hands me back two pieces, one of which was about 8' long. The scary thing was they let this moron operate a huge saw. Save yourseld the time and frustration, and visit the local mom/pop lumber yard -- you'll find out that HD prices suck after they've established the store.

Home Despot is evil. The worst part is the "Do you do drugs? Then don't bother applying here." signs on the front door. Do you think people that work there can go home at night and *not* get high? How else do you expect them to deal with the shame of working @ Home Depot?

Home Despot sucks, Orchard Supply rules OK.

Amen to the Mom n Pop hardware businesses--my local bastion of common sense hardware know-how features mature (gray-haired) sales people who greet you 2 steps inside the store, and can take you straight to the item you're seeking. Home Depot is a 100,000 sq. ft. warehouse with everything but the one item I need!

Home Depot's salespeople only suck because you think of them as salespeople. They're really 'customer service associates' or something, and the last thing they are trained to do is help you with anything.

I have an OSH and a HomeDepot across the street from each other and OSH gets all my business until I need... wood. How come OSH can't get it together to carry wood?

What salespeople? All I ever see is stockboys with an attitude, blind lift truck operators, and new hires trying to find their ass with one hand while fending off customers with the other. Go listen to East Ashville Hardware by David Wilcox.

I'm a a slow learner:

1) I went to purchase rivets one day. I found those and then asked where their rivet guns were. The first person had no idea what I was talking about. The second person said they didn't sell them (but they sell rivets!). Finally, I found them on my own.

2) Needed gutter elbows...brown ones. No one was in the store. I had to climb 20 feet up their shelves to throw down 3 boxes of gutter elbows...all white...has anyone heard of 'checking inventory?'

3) Called the store once to talk to someone in plumbing. On hold for 10 minutes. disconnected. Call again. On hold for 10 minutes. I'm finally told that there will not be a plumbing person in until 8 pm.

Who are these Home-Depot sales staff? Failed contractors? Recent felons out of prison? People that couldn't handle the pressures of working at McDonalds?

I have had nothing but good experiences with Home Depot. It is one of my favorite stores.
Posted by sean on 05/11/01

Love the way they run for cover when you need 'em. . .
Has anyone noticed the "Jim T. proudly stocks/toils/etc. this Plumbing/Electric Tape/Doodad aisle!" signs?
To add to the bitterness, am 4'9" and can't reach a damn thing, but that's my personal *shortcoming*. . .

Why in the hell do they spend so much money installing 24 cash registers and open only two?
Posted by lanesplitter on 05/16/01

Because the cashiers are sooooo busy "helping people" in the aisles
Posted by it all sucks on 05/16/01

I also hate how they write their names with marker on those obnoxious orange aprons. Do they use their toes to write!?
Posted by it just really all sucks on 05/16/01

If Lowe's has expanded to your area, give them a shot. Their stores are actually well organized, plus they don't feel like a third world shopping bazaar.

u people sound a little aggravated to me i mean come on what guy in their right mind has a problem with HD i would live there if they let me. I love going to that place true there are 50 registers with 2 open and phones will be a problem anywhere u call but the women that are in that place are everywhere and usually really hot.i cant remember ever going in there and not not seeing someone or someones i wanted to hook up with.
Posted by mike d on 05/18/01

I guess the reason I get aggravated and you don't is that I actually want to buy hardware and you just want to get laid...

I've been dealing with Home Depot for 13 yrs now and can't believe how cheap and unresponsive they have become. I was in a store in So Cal last night (@ 8:00 pm) and counted 23 shoppers trying to get out through 2 registers. I watched 3 customers just walk way from their carts and out the front door.

I decided to walk across the store and see how many aisles I would go before I saw an employee.....the answer is 11!!! I still have to deal with these guys as part of my job, but the staffing and lack of concern for customers is disgusting. I'm glad I sold my stock, I think the days of HD splits and 40% increases are long gone!

Hire more help and clean up the aisles....SPY2000 won't help that much and should be a flop like all the other great ideas.

the new ceo of home depot should fuck over the rest of the people that aren't bitchin yet
Posted by etrain on 08/27/01

I worked for the Depot for two years as a dept.head in gardening,I wouldn't shop there anymore, the stores are so unsafe that no amount of fixing will solve the problem.I am glad that I got away from the CULT they have built around themselves, Believe me it is them against us( the customer) and the new chairman is destroying any chance that people will actually like the store.

I have worked at hd for 4 yrs and have had nothing but a battle with management. The problems that they should take care of are ignored in order to spend time on created more problems for the rest of their employees. The new Spy2000 program sucks and shows just my point. The people it affects are getting screwed with no say as to what it will do to their home life. Family values?...Yeah right..
Only if it will bring in more money. Spy2000 is for greed not for the people.

It is SPI 2000 not SPY it stands for Service Performance Improvement, GET IT RIGHT!
Posted by get it right on 09/05/01

Get it right! SPI or SPY either way it's going to be F-U-C-K-E-D. I'd be suprised if HD can get anything done right anymore. Amazing how 6 or 7 yrs ago things seemed alright and the customers and employees both had nothing but great things to say about HD. Service Performance Improvment is just another way of saying "save money, less employees, try to save the stagnent stock". Good luck to all you poor HD bastards who are going to ride that dog to the bottom.

If you work at home Depot, get out now! Home Depot is going down the drain. It is going to be the next Target. If you think the 30 cent raise was bad, just wait, it is going to get alot worse! Steal as much shit as you can now, hook your friends and family up with free stuff. Yah you no how. Then sell your stock and leave!!

Home Depot's rollout of "Spi 2000 & Rif" campaign. If I didn't know any better I'd say Home Depot thinks it's "Rifted or Terminated" same meaning only nicely put employee's don't remember the fact that they just hired about 15 new employee's to work the over night stock shifts. One would think that HD store managers would have offered those same positions to those experienced employee's they "Rifled" on the pretext of 9/11 business losses. Take a look at HD's third quarter earnings statement 15% increase not bad huh. Further, on that subject analysts and the like are predicting an increase in revenue for the home improvement HD's & Low's as a result of those limiting there travel do to the 9/11 terrorist attack. Almost forgot Home Depot won't be hiring a single full time employee for a long time since I was just told all stores are to be 50/50 full time/part time employee's except for the overnight stockers. I guess one might say that Nardelli is using Aurther and Berney's Berney's "Core Value's" to wipe his ass with right about now. after all Wal-Mart experience is more likely to get you hired at HD now then industry or trade experience. I am willing to bet Nardelli will leave HD in the dumps by the end of next year a rich man of course. Sure seems like stock holders are paying alot for a leader who just seems to be following in the foot steps of Low's.
Posted by "Rif" on 11/14/01

Beware...Its a cult...think about it...they have a company-wide chant...they are forced to hang-out together at all the stupid seminars...rhetorical videos and orientations....trust me you don't want to work there...i still suffer from phycological damage, when i close my eyes i still see orange..ahhh

This string of observations only goes to show the lack of intelligence of most of these negative posters. If your lives have becomes so inane and unimportant that you have to make up stories to make yourself seem so important,is nothing but pathetic. If you don't like Home Depot, don't shop there, if you don't like working there, quit.
Posted by Populist on 01/24/02

Home Depot is for sure evil. They are always me to my roommates and I whenever we go to get stuff.
Posted by blah on 02/23/02

I'VE BEEN WORKING AT HOME DEPOT FOR 2-1/2 YEARS NOW AND I AM AMAZED AT THE CHANGES, FOR THE WORSE. NARDINELLI HAS ONE AGENDA, DO MORE WITH LESS. HIRE PART TIMERS, LET THE FULL TIMERS GO TO ATTRITION ETC. LOSE CUSTOMER CARE CONTINUITY; BUBBA THE INSTALLED CARPET CUSTOMER WANTS TO DEAL WITH THE SAME PERSON, NOT A STRING OF PART TIMERS WHO WILL SCREW UP HIS ORDER, LOSE NOTES, AND NOT BE KNOWLEDGALBE ENOUGH TO HELP. JUST WAIT, NARDINELLI WILL SERVE HIS FIRST AND ONLY CUSTOMERS, THE STOCKHOLDERS, WHICH IS SELF SERVING AS MOST OF HIS BONUSES ETC ARE AWARDED IN STOCK, AND LEAVE THE COMPANY IN 5 YEAR A RICHER MAN. SPI2000? SIX SIGMA? BOTH SPELL BAD NEWS FOR THE CUSTOMER AND THE HOME DEPOT ASSOCIATE. I FOR ONE HAVE TO LEAVE, I UNDERSTAND THAT, BUT IF THE HOME DEPOT SHOULD TURN INTO THE NEW POST OFFICE, REPLEATE WITH CRAZY BASTARDS, WITH SNIPER RIFLES IN THE ORDER PICKERS, I WILL BE THE FIRST ONE TO SAY "I TOLD YOU SO" I JUST HOPE I'M AT HOME IF IT SHOULD COME TO PASS.
